CUAA@CIA 2015 Recap
On May 9th, 2015, 22 alumni, students and guests sojourned to the CIA in New Hyde Park, NY. They had lunch at the CIA and a tour of The Wall given by Nick Fasciano, A’60, who lovingly preserved and restored this significant piece of art that he helped Lou Dorfsman, A’39, create. Commencement 2015“I want you all to interact with each other. Engineering. Architecture. Art. But I don’t want this interaction for the sake of those supposed precious intersections among our three fields (Three fields, by the way, that we often inaccurately perceive to be fundamentally different in the first place). Connecting for the sake of your work is great, but you should interact with each other for your own sakes. It is vital that we unify as a group of people so that we can take full advantage of our capacity to initiate change.
We must come together and tear open the void between ourselves before we can successfully allow others to join us. The history of this room is not derived simply from who spoke here, but from what they said and did in that moment. This school’s legacy is one of academic, political, and social controversy! Be unapologetic in your efforts to fulfill that legacy.
This legacy means that the things we have done at Cooper cannot be taken home and put on a shelf. It is not enough to occasionally look back at these experiences when feeling nostalgic. CUAA@Gilbert Tour on June 19th2015 marks the 50th Anniversary of the New York Landmarks Preservation Law! To celebrate, the NYC Landmarks50 Alliance is hosting the Cass Gilbert Trails tour which will be led by 2 great grandchildren of the architect, Cass Gilbert.
Join the CUAA for a tour of 3 of NYC’s most notable landmark buildings designed by Cass Gilbert: The Woolworth Building, The Alexander Hamilton US Custom House, and the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse Building.

Be a part of the Danish American Sustainable Design Workshop! DasWkSp is an opportunity for 26 Danish students and 20 New York students from invited schools to exchange knowledge, skills and ideas. This event lecture is part of a workshop developed by The Business Academy Southwest in conjunction with Pratt Institute. Everyday of the program will teach the students about sustainable building practices and their impact on our lives through lectures by professors and professionals as well as tours of notable buildings. By the end of the program, the students will have worked together to create innovative sustainable designs to help make a cleaner, healthier, and safer world.The following events are open to the Cooper Community and the public.
