Leonard N. Green EE ’51
Leonard N. Green was a life-long resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Following his high school graduation in 1943, he joined the military. He was a sergeant in the 13th Air Force in World War II in the Philippines. He graduated from the Cooper Union in 1951 with a degree in electrical engineering.
He worked for Airco Welding Products in Union, N.J. for 16 years. He was also employed by General Instrument Corp., Blonder-Tongue Labs, Vare Industries and Wallson Associates.
Just prior to his retirement, Leonard was a senior engineer with the N.J. Board of Public Utilities Electrical Division. A major accomplishment of his was demonstrating that PSE&G was at fault in a prolonged nuclear generating station outage, which involved millions of dollars of replacement power costs, and development of specifications for connection of co-generation systems to commercial power lines. He designed circuitry and the antenna for the first mass-produced UHF-TV converter. He was a sergeant in the 13th Air Force in World War II in the Philippines.
He was known as “Mr. Baseball of Union County” and was installed in the Union County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Elizabeth Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
Leonard N. Green passed away on Oct. 6, 2012.
