Lois Dodd, A’48
Lois Dodd grew up in Montclair, NJ and studied art at The Cooper Union. She lives in both New York City and in Maine. She is well know for her paintings of New England landscapes.
She has influenced many painters, including Catherine Murphy, Sylvia Plimack-Mangold (A’59) and Josephine Halvorson, (A 2003).
She has taught “Outdoor Painting Workshops” in Sebasco Estates, Maine.
Her work is included in the collections of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Colby College Museum, Cooper Union Museum, the Farnsworth Museum, the National Academy of Design, and the Chase Manhattan Bank.
In 1996, a traveling exhibition of her work called “Lois Dodd: 25 Years of Painting,” was organized. Some of its venues were the Trenton City Museum and the Montclair Museum in New Jersey.
In 2015 she had an exhibit, Lois Dodd: Rent Panel Paintings at Alexandre Gallery which included 34 of her works.
Lois received the Cooper Union Presidential Citation in 1987, the Augustus St. Gaudens Medal in 2005, and she was inducted into The Cooper Union Hall of Fame in 2009.
