Support our return to tuition-free education

The Cooper Union is a top-ranked, independent college in New York City’s East Village where socially engaged, high-achieving students from all walks of life study in its prestigious schools of architecture, art, and engineering. Access to education, without the financial burden of tuition, has been a legacy since 1859 when founder and philanthropist Peter Cooper established the institution as a free center of learning and a destination for meaningful civic engagement. While 50% tuition began in 2014, scholarships currently cover, on average, 77% of student tuition for Cooper undergraduates.

Since 1858, the Great Hall of The Cooper Union has stood as a bastion of free speech and a witness to the flow of American history and ideas. It remains a destination for all those interested in serious discussion and debate of the vital issues of the day. The Great Hall and its “who’s who” of historic orators also provide an inspiring foundation for our students to hone their crafts through the lens of civic engagement and activism.

Auction to Benefit Cooper
August 4–20
In conjunction with the Concert for Cooper, alumni and friends have generously donated one-of-a-kind experiences and unique items that are now available at auction. These include a virtual meetup with Patty Jenkins, director of “Wonder Woman”; jewelry by Eva Fehren; private use of Cooper’s historic Great Hall; and other exciting items and opportunities. Stay tuned for art by Awol Erizku and a studio tour with Daniel Arsham. Proceeds from the auction will raise scholarship funds in support of The Cooper Union’s return to providing free tuition for all undergraduate students.
