CUAA@CIA 2015 Recap

On May 9th, 2015, 22 alumni, students and guests sojourned to the CIA in New Hyde Park, NY.  They had lunch at the CIA and a tour of The Wall given by Nick Fasciano, A’60, who lovingly preserved and restored this significant piece of art that he helped Lou Dorfsman, A’39, create. The event was organized by Don Blauweiss, A’61 and Alexis Lenza CE’05.

Some Words About the Day by Don Blauweiss, A’61

Back in the 60s Lou Dorfsman, A’39, was one of my design idols. And when I became president of the Cooper Alumni Association, Lou became a mentor and eventually a friend. So when I learned that Nick Fasciano, A’60, had reconstructed Lou’s Wall, known as Gastrotypograhicalassemblage, and that it was being installed at the Culinary Institute of America, I thought having a Cooper Alumni Event to honor Lou would be a great idea. And thanks to Alexis Lenza, chair of the Events Committee, and to Nick, who recounted the entire history of the wall, it was a great alumni event!

Of course, it started with a magnificent lunch at the CIA Bocuse Restaurant. After lunch we strolled over to the new Marriott Pavilion where the wall has been installed. Because Lou’s classmate, Herb Lubalin, also had a role in the creation of  The Wall, Alex Tochilovsky, A’00, of the Lubalin Center kicked off the talk. Nick Fasciano followed with history, anecdotes and explanations of the creation and re-creation of The Wall.
