Caitlin (Katie) Correll ME 12

Running For: 2021 Council

Campaign Statement

My objective is to preserve the unique qualities and attributes of the Cooper I knew as a student and the university Peter Cooper envisioned. The environment and experience of Cooper, beyond providing an excellent education, shapes students in ways that no other program can. I believe it is our duty as alumni to preserve that unique community and ensure that future students receive the same caliber of experience this includes, of course, working to eliminate tuition and continuing to attract top level students and educators to keep Cooper thriving long into the future.

Biography

Katie is a Mechanical Design Engineer with Animax Designs in Nashville, Tennessee, where she designs animatronic figures, articulated puppets and cutting edge interactive characters for theme parks around the world. This is the latest step in a career in entertainment engineering that has included stints designing everything from Broadway puppets to arena rock show stages as well as time with both Disney and Universal.

A 2012 Mechanical Engineering Graduate, Katie was active in student council during her time at Cooper, serving on the Faculty Student Senate as well as the National District Operating Board for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. She remains an active member in ASME, having served as the News and Social Media Lead for the early career engineering group, and completing the ECLIPSE leadership training program as liaison to the Engineering for Global Development group in 2017.

Katie received the Old Gaurd Early Career Award in November 2017 “for inspiring young people to explore engineering as a profession through ASME service at the local and enterprise levels, personal growth in the entertainment industry, public advocacy and community service”, a prize which she donated back to Cooper Union with the hope that it will enable future students to receive the same quality education and to inspire alumni to do the same.
