Professor Eric Lima, ME’02

Dr. Eric Lima currently serves as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of The Open-Source Hardware Laboratory at The Cooper Union. He studied Mechanical Engineering during his undergraduate days at Cooper and received his doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University in 2008.  At Columbia, he worked in the laboratory of Prof. Clark Hung, focusing on creating bone/cartilage composites. Prof. Ateshian served as a co-advisor in his doctoral studies.  Eric’s research on microbubbles was recently published in the scientific journal Acta Biomaterialia. He, along with several authors, wrote “Microbubbles as Biocompatible Porogens for Hydrogel Scaffolds.” The work is on increasing the availability of nutrients to cells that are embedded in a biocompatible gel.

Professors Alan Wolf and Eric Lima of spoke at the PSFK Conference 2014 about Invention Factory which is a 6-week intensive summer program for current engineering students. (PSFK does research for corporate clients to determine trends and consumer behaviors)
