ALUMNI NEWS

Alumni in Law Affinity Group

The Cooper Union Alumni in Law affinity group held a virtual mixer on December 2, 2020. About 20 alumni attended from across the country.

The mixer started with an interactive presentation by Anna Brook BSE ’04 showing how to make sugar-free ice cream at home. Alumni then shared “life hacks” from the past few months. Helpful tips included working out while on conference calls without video, using virtual backgrounds to mask children walking into home offices, and enjoying bird-watching during breaks.

To join the Alumni in Law Affinity Group, please email Hannah.Teskey@cooper.edu.

First Tuesday Events

The CUAA Events Committee recently hosted trivia nights as part of the First Tuesdays series. The December 1, 2020, and January 5, 2021, events each had more than 20 contestants answering questions on topics ranging from Peter Cooper’s family to Cooper Union events to music to the Seven Wonders of the World. Several more alumni from all three schools logged on to watch the fun. Tori Davis BSE ’05, and Anna Brook BSE ’04 were the respective winners, and each won their choice of several Cooper Union merchandise items.

CU Motor Sports

Cooper Union Motorsports Update

Recently, in accordance with the Electric Vehicle (EV) Transition Timeline,
the team have begun to prioritize EV design by looking to research EV design requirements. They plan to purchase an electric motor in January and are looking to start gathering preliminary designs.
The team has now incorporated Siemens PLM Software instead of Solidworks for the designing work. The Siemens PLM Software was selected for its more efficient CAD infrastructure.

CU Steel Bridge Team

“The Cooper Union Steel Bridge Team is a student-run organization that designs, fabricates, and assembles a 22-foot steel bridge for the AISC competition every year. The team raises funds from donations from engineering firms and Cooper Union alumni to purchase materials needed for the bridge.

Like many things in the past year, the 2020 Steel Bridge competition was canceled. For 2021, AISC has created an entirely virtual competition. Teams will prepare a 3D model of their bridge and conduct simulated loading with a structural analysis software. Teams must also submit a report of 10-15 pages detailing the process and rationale behind the design, and a video promoting our bridge design. Learn More Website Instagram
