CUAA Council Meetings

The final CUAA Council meeting for the 2015/2016 school year was held on May 10 and June 21, 2016.  28 alumni attended.

Interim President Bill Mea was a guest speaker. He summarized some of the year’s accomplishments and mentioned how enjoyable the recent Commencement ceremony and Reunion Weekend were.  Bill Mea announced that 10 new faculty members are joining the staff in the fall.  All 10 will be filling positions that have been vacant and are provided for in the budget.  3 will teach in the School of Art, 3 will teach in Humanities, and 2 will teach in Engineering.  The School still has two open positions in Architecture.  Bill took questions from the audience for about 40 minutes.    The school has recently published a book that is a compilation of alumni stories. This is being used by Development personnel when speaking with prospective donors. Bill encouraged alumni to continue to submit their Alumni Stories.

The proposed CUAA Budget for the coming year was presented by Secretary/Treasurer Sean Cusack.  An update on the Annual Fund was given by the Annual Fund Chair, Carol Wolf.  With 9 days remaining before the end of the fiscal year, $2,366,000 has been raised.  This is a 13% increase over last year.  A motion was made by Sean Cusack for the CUAA to make a $4000 to the Annual Fund using money left over in this year’s budget.  Carol Wolf seconded the motion.  A vote was taken by show of hands and the motion passed.

An update on the plans for the Block Party in September was given by Victoria Sobel and Casey Gollan.  The Block Party will be happening on Saturday, September 3rd, 2016, from 12 pm to 5 pm which is during Orientation Weekend.  The CUAA is collaborating with Student Services.  Some tote bags have been purchased by the Student Services office that feature a design created by Julie Harris A’16.  Victoria and Casey are creating some limited edition enamel pins and silk screened t-shirts which will be available for sale.  Many of the planned booths still require alumni volunteers and donations are being solicited to help pay the costs associated with the event. Many Student organizations will be participating in the Block Party.  Alumna are encouraged to visit the PeterCooperBlockParty/2016/ website to learn more and make donations.
