Message from Co-Chair of the Special Election–Kay Nordstrom

kay Nordsstrom

Dear Fellow Alumnus/a:

When I was asked to serve as Co-Chair of the Special Election for Alumni Trustees, I knew it would be a difficult task to conduct the election with 25 candidates in a three week time frame from October 28 – November 18. I accepted this role because of the importance of this election, the opportunity to increase our participation on the Board of Trustees and the need to seat the very best people to guide our beloved Cooper Union at this critical time. I am very impressed by the outstanding quality of the alumni candidates.

I was thrilled by the huge out-pouring of nominees who stepped up to offer their expertise. From their bios, you can see that they are all uniquely qualified and distinguished in their fields. They would all make excellent trustees. We are indeed fortunate to have so many good candidates to choose from.

There is diversity among the candidates. All three schools, Art, Architecture and Engineering, are well represented. We also have gender, ethnic, and age diversity.

Meet the Candidates Night last Monday was truly the highlight of the election period. All the candidates showed great intellect, character and understanding of the current situation. If you were unable to attend in person or remotely last Monday, I strongly encourage you to view the livestream before casting your final vote.

I’d like to thank all the candidates. Your commitment and willingness to serve are extraordinary. You make me proud to be part of the Cooper Union community and hopeful that our school may be restored to its historic mission and a sustainable future.

Respectfully,

Kay Nordstrom
