Cooper Lumen at Ideas City Festival — June 2015

Cooper Lumen Update– June 2015

The Cooper Lumen team began in 2014 and continues as a partnership of Cooper Union Students and alumni. It provides a prototype solar powered charging station that is useful at parks and events and could be a lifeline to those without power, in the aftermath of a disaster like super storm Sandy.

The Cooper Lumen Team is advised by CU Professor Toby Cumberbatch and Paul Garrin, A’82. Two Bridges Neighborhood Council is the non-profit fiscal sponsor of the Cooper Lumen project, in conjunction with WiFi-NY.

Earlier this month, Paul Garrin A’82 demonstrated the Cooper Lumen at the City Ideas festival.

Here is a  writeup on the Cooper Lumen from the Villager:  Article

The Lumen was featured at the New Muesum’s Ideas City festival — showcased in Sarah D. Roosevelt Park, and it will be at the Cooper Square Committee’s 2nd Avenue festival set up at the intersection of St.Marks/2nd Ave on Sat. June 13, from 11- 5 pm.

The WiFi-NY wireless link is coming from a repeater mounted on the flagpole at the north end of the Foundation building — where it’s serving the Cooper Union typographics workshop located in the residence hall storefront (formerly St. Marks Books), and where it served the wifi at the CUAA block party on Astor Place.
