Reconstruir: Supporting rebuilding efforts in Mexico

Art + Food + Mezcal + Music  |  The Cooper Union School of Art |  41 Cooper Gallery  |  Saturday, November 4th  |  6-10pm

$200 = One artwork + poster + entrance | $25 = Poster + entrance

On September 7th, a magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck the southern part of Mexico; twelve days later another earthquake of 7.1 magnitude shook Mexico City and its surrounding areas. These two powerful earthquakes killed hundreds, toppled buildings and destroyed communities.

We want to support reconstruction efforts by raising $20,000.

We’ve collected over a hundred works of art generously donated by an amazing group of artists (see list below). These artworks will be on display November 4th at The Cooper Union School of Art.

Donations of $200 = entrance to the event, a letterpress printed poster + one artwork to be raffled at 8pm at the event and drinks provided by Bruxo Mezcal.

Donations of $25  = entrance to the event + a letterpress printed poster. We appreciate donations of any amount. Please make donations through this YouCaring page listed below:

Funds raised will be directed to: Museo Comunitario del Valle de Xico | Los Carpintruenos | Casa Cultural Bacaanda

All proceeds will be directed to communities impacted by the earthquakes in Mexico.  We are working with Mexican artist Omar Barquet who is involved in relief and rebuilding efforts in the community of El Jicarero, in the state of Morelos through the collective Los Carpintruenos; artist Maria Thereza Alves, who is working with the Museo Comunitario del Valle de Xico and the director there, Genaro Amaro Altamirano, who has been helping to deliver food and medicine directly to affected populations in Valle de Chalco; as well as artist Cristian Pineda Flores working with Centro Cultural Bacaanda asentada en Juchitan, region del Istmo, Oaxaca.

This event is organized by Alumni of The Cooper Union School of Art: Alva Mooses, Mauricio Cortes & Felipe Baeza in collaboration with TheMexican Cultural Institute in NYBruxo Mezcal and INSA Korean BBQ & Karaoke.
