Philip Singer CE’63 was recognized for his teaching career at UNC with the creation of an endowed professorship that is named for him. This was announced at a reception held Nov. 11, 2016 to honor Philip Singer, PhD, professor emeritus of environmental sciences and engineering at UNC Gillings. Ninety-two members of the Gillings School community, from 21 different states, came together to honor Singer by contributing to the professorship fund. The average gift was more than $3,000, with the total contributed and matching funds from the state bringing the amount in the professorship fund to more than $500,000. Philip Singer currently serves on the Flint Water Inter-agency Coordinating Committee, which provides guidance on long-term solutions to the water issues in Flint, Mich.

Elizabeth Diller, founding partner of Diller Scofidio + Renfro, is producing an opera for the High Line. Dubbed the “Mile Long Opera,” the production will be set on the High Line.
A Cooper Union Rhoda Lubalin Fellows Exhibition titled, Type High, will be from February 7th through 16th in the 41 Cooper Square Gallery. Rhoda Lubalin Fellows, Michael Prisco A’16 and Helen Sywalski A’16 will have a group exhibition that includes the designs, typography, and large, physical letterforms that they have been researching and developing. The opening reception is on Feb 7th from 6-8 PM.
