2016 Archtober and Open House NY

Archtober

Archtober is a month long celebration of Architecture.  Archtober includes tours, lectures, films and exhibitions that focus on the importance of architecture and design in everyday life.  It is organized by the Center for Architecture in collaboration with partnering organizations across the city, the festival raises awareness of the important role of design in our city and the richness of New York’s built environment.  The Cooper Union community is very much a part of the Archtober festivities.

10/4 to 10/22     Nader Tehrani, Dean, Chanin School of Architecture, Daniel Libeskind AR ’70 , Laurie Hawkinson AR ’83, Gina Pollara AR ’91, Bradley Samuels, AR ’05, are part of a group exhibition, Work in Progress, which showcases alternative visions for New York City development projects, as well as a photographic survey of active construction sites throughout the city.    Learn More

Gia Mainiero, AR ’06 gives a guided tour of this facility located at the corner of Spring Street and West Street, this complex includes three district garages for the NYC Department of Sanitation, accommodating over 150 sanitation vehicles, separate vehicle wash and personnel facilities for each district, and centralized fueling and repair facilities.

10/27/16 to 12/03/16      The thirteenth Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (XIII BEAU)

This traveling exhibit will be exhibited for the first time in the United States in Cooper Union’s Arthur A. Houghton Jr. Gallery. The exhibition, entitled Alternativas / Alternatives, features 22 jury selected projects completed between January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2015 by contemporary Spanish architects. The installation, which also includes an additional 20 shortlisted works, features large-scale image displays and audiovisual commentary about the winning projects, as well as drawing reproductions and architectural models.  The exhibition is free and open to the public.   Learn More

Open House NY

Open House NY is a weekend event that is organized by   .  It is part of a worldwide movement to engage a broad public in a conversation about architecture, public space, and the future of urban life. This year, it takes place on October 15 and 16.  In some cases, the buildings have been designed or renovated by allumni.  In other cases, alumni are are taking part.
