Running For: Council
Having grown up in NYC and enjoyed the honor of attending The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (A’11) I possess a deep commitment to the role civic responsibility plays within the arts community. As I earn my MA in arts administration I am interested in investigating how to better connect, evaluate and even enforce an institution to its mission and community. I’m excited to apply my development acumen to encourage a stronger alumni network, stabilize its financial plan and work towards a tuition-free Cooper Union.
Genevieve Martin is an experienced arts administrator, who currently directs external relations and curatorial programming at The Art Students League of New York. Her primary responsibility is to raise the profile of The League while restoring its famed Vanderbilt Gallery. She earned her BFA from Cooper Union (Art) and will have completed her MA in Art Administration from Baruch College in Spring 2019 (GPA 4.0). Her thesis monitors the proliferation of MFA programs and its accreditation process. Genevieve has a proven track-record of identifying new individual and foundation prospects, building strong partnerships, and working with contemporary artists. Prior to her work at The Art Students League of New York, she managed all institutional relations and membership at the Center for Italian Modern Art, an alternative research and exhibition center. Genevieve has significant experience in special projects and strategic planning. One of her greatest joys is the privilege of managing and mentoring dozens of interns in her career. Previous institutions that Genevieve has supported include The Morgan Library & Museum, Christie’s, The Moving Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
