January 2019 Council Meeting
The CUAA Alumni Council met on Jan. 10, 2019 in room LL101 of the 41 Cooper Square building. The evening began with a tasting of arancini rice balls supplied by Arancini Bros. which is a company that was co-founded by Giulia Della Gatta A ’96 and her partners. The Awards Committee, Nominating Committee, and Events Committee chairs provided updates.

Record Number of Cooper Together Celebrations will be happening in February
Join us for Cooper Together, the third-annual celebration of Peter Cooper’s birthday. Alumni and friends will gather in cities across the country and internationally to commemorate Peter Cooper’s philanthropic spirit and to help launch the 160th anniversary year of the Cooper Union. If you’re in New York City, come sample beer brewed by Professor Sam Keene and the student Cooper Brew team and view the Benjamin Menschel Student Fellowship exhibition.

Alumni Directory is On-Line
Use it to find your classmates. This feature is found by selecting the Alumni Tab on the cooper.edu website. Next select, Find Your Classmates in the column on the left side of the page. If you have your password from the retired cualumni.com site, use it to log into the alumni directory. You may get a new password by registering on the Log-in screen.

Meet Charlie Bliss ChE’39/PDE’48
Charles Bliss ChE’39/PDE’48 was recently interviewed on CBS Evening News. He is 101 years old and still practicing engineering. He recently received US patent: 2017 / 0241707, Method for the Capture of Carbon Dioxide Through Cryogenically Processing Gaseous Emissions From Fossil – Fuel Power Generation.

Charles Bliss received the 2011 CUAA Gano Dunn Award and was inducted that same year into the Cooper Union Hall of Fame. He has had a long and international career in power plant technology, promoting and developing local energy in all five continents with a focus on the developing world. He served on the Senior Staff at the Mitre Corporation and Foster Wheeler Corporation, and as a Physical Scientist with the US Agency for International Development. His work has involved long periods of residence in Nigeria, the Philippines, Colombia and Pakistan. His focus has largely been on adapting technologies in fossil energy production and utilization. This continues in his current position as Vice President of Engineering at Moseley Horizon, Inc., concentrating on energy supply problems in Pakistan.
