Martin Trust ME’56
Martin Trust grew up in Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn Tech High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Cooper Union in 1956, and his Master’s degree in Industrial Management from the Sloan School of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was an Associate Professor at Lowell University from 1959 to 1965.
Martin Trust is the President of Samtex (USA), LLC. Samtex which is a holding company that owns equity positions in companies that manufacture apparel and other products related to the clothing industry.
Formerly, Martin Trust was President and Chief Executive Officer of Mast Industries, Inc. and served on the Board of Directors of Limited Brands from 1978 until 2003. He has served as Cleared Advisor to the United States Department of Commerce on textile trade issues and also served on the Trade Advisory Committee for Africa. In 1994, the Government of Sri Lanka recognized Mr. Trust’s long-standing involvement in the industrial development of Sri Lanka by naming him “Ranjana.” In 2001, he founded another apparel company, Brandot International, Inc. He retired from Brandot in 2014.
Marty served as a director for Staples, Inc. and The Limited, Inc. and he served on the board of Virtusa Corporation, and several non-profits including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and The Cooper Union. He served on The Cooper Union Board of Trustees from 1989 to 2016.
In 2001, he became part of a group that purchased the Boston Red Sox.
Martin Trust received the CUAA Gano Dunn Award in 1997 and the CUAA Alumnus of The Year Award in 2006. He was inducted into The Cooper Union Hall of Fame in 2009. He passed away in September 2019.
