Arnold Arlow A’54

Arnold Arlow was born in 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from the High School of Music and Art in 1950 and The Cooper Union School of Art in 1954. Upon graduation, he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship allowing him to study and paint in France and in Spain.

In 1957, he began his career in advertising. He rose to executive vice president and creative director of TBWA. He received acclaim as the developer and creative director of the campaign for Absolut vodka. He continued in advertising until 1988 when he moved to Amagansett, New York and returned to his painting career.

Arnold Arlow served on The Cooper Union Board of Trustees as an Alumni Trustee from 1982 to 1985. He was an active member of the CUAA and he served as Chair of the Augustus Saint Gaudens Award committee in the early 2000’s. He passed away on May 8, 2025.

Awards

In 1988 and again in 1990, Arnold Arlow received the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA) Kelly award for Absolut vodka campaign. The award is given for the best magazine advertising in USA. In 1995, he received the CUAA Augustus Guadens Award, and in 2009, he was inducted into The Cooper Union Hall of Fame.
