CUAA @ Orientation
By Kelly Occhiuzzo Zack, A’90
On Saturday night, August 29th, over 75 newly admitted Cooper Union students joined alumni in the Great Hall for what the CUAA hopes will become an annual Orientation event, The Peter Cooper Movie Night.
The evening began with delicious Gua Baos and Spring Rolls, catered by KayaNYC where for over an hour, alumni and students mingled. The students asked the alumni questions about the school, its history, what their expectations should be. The new students also acquainted themselves with each other before classes begin. Carol (Robinson) Wolf A’84, put together a wonderful slide show to demonstrate the Cooper Union alumni who have impacted the world.
One of the new students, is an exchange student from the India Institute of Technology, Shrikant Chavare. He is a senior in the engineering school. CU Student leaders were also present representing the Student Council and Student Residence Assistants. Alumni from 4 different decades attended. It was especially nice to see alumni from the 2014 and 2015 classes.
The “mixer” was followed by a screening of Janet Gardner’s A’65 Mechanic to Millionaire: The Peter Cooper Story. The film celebrates the life and legacy of Cooper Union’s founder.
Nils Anderson A’94, President of CUAA; Sean Cusack BSE’98, Secretary/Treasure of CUAA and Barry Drogin EE’83 each took a few minutes to welcome the students and answer questions following the movie. Click here or in the preview above for a video of the introduction.
The evening was extremely successful and enjoyed by all.
