Supporting Cooper Union students since 2019
What is M&G?
What We Do
Maroon and Gold Labs is a non-profit corporation that is designed to incubate ideas created by Cooper Union students, staff, faculty and alumni. Teams with promising ideas will be matched with a team of mentors, spearheaded by a mentor captain with experience in the team’s field of knowledge and idea development stage.
How It Works
Cooper teams apply to the program with an idea for a new venture. Teams with a marketable business model that delivers an innovative solution are accepted into the lab to develop their idea while receiving support from alumni mentors. At the end of each academic cycle, teams will report on their progress and be eligible for the continued support.

Our first grant winner, Twist-Talk!
We accepted entrepreneurs Brian Chung (EE ’21) and Hannah Quirk (ME ’21) into the M&G incubator for their invention, Twist-Talk!
Twist-Talk is an assistive communication aid intended for nonverbal children with autism spectrum disorder. It is portable, provides autism appropriate tactile feedback, is never overwhelming for the child, and is extremely intuitive to use. The device will be the first to empower autistic children to fluidly communicate.
They are working closely with a mentor captain Howie Rosenblatt (EE ‘91) to fulfill the milestones they’ve set and perform product testing, in order to acquire the second half of the $5k grant.
