Ron Vogel ChE’01

Ron Vogel, ChE’01, has devoted years of service to the Cooper Union Alumni Association (CUAA), helping strengthen the organization during a pivotal period in The Cooper Union’s history. He first served on the CUAA Alumni Council and went on to hold multiple leadership roles—as Chair of the Communications Committee, CUAA Treasurer, and CUAA President.

Across these positions, Ron worked to strengthen operations, improve coordination, and support the volunteer leaders who keep the organization moving forward. A hallmark of his service has been his commitment to building the CUAA’s capacity and resilience: he coordinated the CUAA’s submission of an application for federal nonprofit status under Section 501(c), a significant effort that required careful organization, documentation, and follow-through. Throughout his tenure, Ron witnessed firsthand how essential strong, steady leadership is—both to the CUAA and to the broader Cooper Union community.

Professionally, Ron’s career reflects an uncommon blend of financial, technical, and legal expertise. He began with a foundation in finance, earning a B.S. in Finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and early in his career worked on Wall Street as a financial analyst. He then pursued a fully independent second undergraduate degree at Cooper Union (without transferring any credits) and earned a B.E. in Chemical Engineering, graduating summa cum laude in 2001, and continued with a master’s degree in chemical engineering.

After working as a chemist and engineer for several years, Ron earned a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He now practices as a life sciences patent lawyer at a premier law firm, counseling and advocating for clients navigating complex legal, financial, and scientific issues. His work draws on the full arc of his background—rigorous quantitative training, practical engineering experience, and legal strategy—to help organizations protect and advance cutting-edge technologies.

Ron also continues to deepen his scientific foundation and will soon complete a graduate degree in bioinformatics at New York University.

Ron remains grateful for the mentorship he received at Cooper Union and for all that Professors Stock, Okorafor, and Brazinsky taught him. Giving back through the CUAA has been both a responsibility and a privilege—an opportunity to offer his professional experience in service of the institution that shaped his path.

He cares deeply about Cooper Union’s mission and future, and it has been a true honor to serve the School and the CUAA. Ron is the 2026 Recipient of the CUAA Alumnus of the Year Award.
