Campaign Statement

I enjoyed my time at Cooper Union and would be honored to add my efforts and perspective to the Alumni Council. The financial status of Cooper Union is an extremely important topic, but it is not the only topic. I would also like to spend some time focusing on activities for the students, as well as alumni, which I believe enhance a healthy and balanced life. The following are just three possibilities which come to mind.

As a Cooper student, I enjoyed the mental break provided by ski trips to Mt. Sutton, Canada each winter. In February I returned to Mt. Sutton and nearby Bromont Mtn. with some Cooper alum for a long weekend of skiing (and some curling). We had a great time. I would like to explore having the student ski trip return as an annual event.

Closer to home, there are groups that organize interesting hikes in and around NYC. For example, last year, my wife and I walked around the perimeter of Manhattan with one of those groups.Moving above ground at 3 mph provides the time to take in the sights, sounds, architecture, sculptures and other cultural aspects of this great city.

I would also like to look into increasing the opportunities for students to work side-by-side with professionals in their disciplines.

With respect to our financial status, the January 15, 2018 Plan To Return to Full-Tuition Scholarships presented by the Free Education Committee of the Board of Trustees is challenging, but achievable. Every member of the Cooper community can help in some way and should do so.I am ready to work with all members of the Cooper community to move forward.I believe we will come out of this financial situation as a stronger institution.
