Biography

Michael David Brathwaite, Art 1978. Born February 7, 1951, In NYC

Full Scholarships from the Art Students League, New York Studio School and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture paved the way to earning a BFA degree from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in 1978.

As an undergraduate, I was the director and instructor for the Saturday Program in Art and Architecture. This mini art school within the Cooper Union was comprised of 12 student instructors and 250 New York City high school students. We taught classes every Saturday for the entire academic year while studying for our degrees.

My interest in teaching and counseling expanded while working as an art therapist at the Groves Therapeutic and Child Development Center for 5 years. I maintained a small studio in New York City while working a full-time position. These formative positions lead me to the field of educational administration and college counseling.
