Donato Giacalone AR’83
Running for: Council
I would welcome the opportunity to continue working with the Cooper Union Alumni Association in the capacity of a Council member. My past years’ experience of working as the VP for the Faculty/Student Liaison Committee and as Co-Chair for the same committee the previous year has gained me experience that I wish to put forward in helping the school, students and alumni work together in a shared partnership.
Donato Giacalone graduated from the Cooper Union School of Architecture in 1983. Donato is a registered Architect and a Principal at Salam & Giacalone Architects PC. He and the firm have designed numerous public and private projects throughout New York City’s five boroughs, including a project within the Cooper Union Foundation Building.
Projects undertaken by Donato have earned his firm numerous awards, including the Staten Island AIA Chapter’s Merit Awards for Architecture for the Green Belt Nature Center, Staten Island, NY; for the Pavilion in Conference House Park, Staten Island, NY. and for the Historic Reconstruction of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center Headquarters Offices, Staten Island, NY. The firm’s projects have been published in the New York Times, Metropolis, Progressive Architecture, Architectural Record and Architecture magazines.
Donato has served as VP of the Faculty/Student Liaison Committee this past year and as Co-Chair the previous year for the same committee. This experience has been a beneficial one for him and led to his decision to continue serving the CUAA as a member of the Council.
