George Saviano MD Ph ’71

Campaign Statement and Biography

I am a New Yorker and attended high school in the Bronx. Then of course my degree at Cooper Union (BS Physics 1977) followed by 3 Years of graduate work at Columbia University and Purdue University (studying biology, biochemistry, chemistry, anatomy, and genetics). I then Graduated New York Medical College in 3 Years followed by residency at Metropolitan and Saint Vincent’s Hospitals (3 years), a Fellowship at The George Washington University Hospital in Cardiology ( 2 years). I was then a full-time faculty member at Rutgers medical school for 4 years followed by being the senior member of a private cardiology group (that I founded), from 1986 until 2020 (34 years). After my practice was acquired by Hackensack Medical (HMH in NJ), I was employed for 2 years until I retired. During my career I was a “first wave” interventional cardiologist, when the field was in its infancy and also acted as the Director of our Nuclear Lab. I held the Nuclear Materials License for the practice. My personal activity has been varied and consisted of the study of, and piloting of Rotorcraft (Helicopters) and the mechanics of, and building of, timepieces (general watchmaking). I am an avid reader. I have traveled extensively (US, multiple countries in Europe, South America, Africa, the Far East, Mexico, The Balkans, Russia and other countries). I believe in the primacy of Physics and Mathematics as a basis for all engineering (and Life in general). I look forward to helping Cooper Union in any way I can.
